Why mount a headboard?

Mounting a headboard in your bedroom has many benefits:

• Looks: a headboard visually dresses your bed and completes the decor of the whole room;
• Comfort: a headboard generally props up your pillows so you can read and use your screens comfortably. It also keeps them from shifting during the night, which supports good posture while you sleep;
• Well-being: a headboard acts as a barrier between your head and the wall, notably sparing you the “cold wall” effect. And when well positioned, a headboard can help you create real Feng Shui harmony by encouraging the flow of energy in the room.

The main ways to mount a headboard

As a rule, there are 3 ways to mount a headboard.

Attach your headboard to the wall

You can attach your headboard directly to one of the walls of your bedroom, which means drilling into the wall where you want to place it. This is the solution that gives the greatest stability.

In this case, you need to use a dedicated mounting system, usually with wooden or metal cleats or rails.

Mount the headboard on the bed base

To avoid drilling into your wall, some headboard models can be attached directly to the base of your bed. Generally, the headboard manufacturer supplies the installation kit you need to mount your headboard on your bed base.

This solution creates real harmony between the bed base and the headboard. The bottoms of the bed base and headboard line up perfectly. And because the headboard is raised off the floor, it is protected from the dust that often collects at floor level.

Stand the headboard on the floor

This is the quickest and simplest method. You just need to wedge the headboard snugly between the wall and the bed. The weight of the bed is generally enough to hold the headboard in place. This method has several advantages:

• You don't have to drill into your bedroom wall;
• You don't need any special tools;
• You can move your bed and headboard wherever you like;
• If you move house, you don't have to take your headboard apart.
  
  

What affects how you mount your headboard

How you should mount your headboard depends on several factors:

• The type of headboard: there are many different headboard models. Some can be attached to the wall or bed base, others stand on the floor;
• The size of the headboard: while the width of your headboard rarely affects how you mount it, its height can. A headboard shorter than the height of your bed plus bed base will have to be attached to the wall to sit above the bed;
• Your preferences: many headboard models can be secured whichever way you prefer: to the wall, to the bed base or standing on the floor. In that case, you choose the mounting technique you like best;
• Whether you rent or own: as a renter, drilling into your bedroom wall to hang a headboard can be a hassle. In that case, you are better off with a model that can be mounted directly on the bed base or stood on the floor.

How do you mount a Letti Letti headboard?

At Letti Letti, all our headboards can be stood directly on the floor, or mounted by attaching them directly to your bedroom wall or to your bed base.

If you choose to mount your headboard on your bed base, we supply the right mounting kit. Each of our models also has wooden plates at the front and back. This lets you drill into the headboard to attach the mounting brackets (also supplied with the headboard). The headboard cover (in the color you choose) then hides the mounting system for a flawless finish.
